Fiverr is a great place to monetise your skills. If you are currently employed and you possess a certain set of skills that is highly sought after, you are able to gain a healthy income on the side by selling your services to people who need it. However, this does require a certain level of commitment to ensure that you set up initially to attract orders and to gain orders consistently along the way.

Since fiverr does now have a substantial number of service providers, it might seem impossible to create a space for you and gain attention. Fear not, as it not impossible. There is a process that enables you to establish yourself successfully. The following points will guide you along what needs to be done to start your fiverr journey.

Step 1: Find an ideal service category that you are an expert in.

When you start off in fiverr, there are already hundreds of services on offer. Most of which have been well established with many service providers, and some relatively new. If you are skilled in more than one aspects, look for categories that do not have a high level of competition. We will look at analyzing competition in the next points.
Pick a category that is a skill that you are most skilled in. Since you are expecting this to be a side hustle, the limited hours you put must be productive to fulfill orders you have.

Step 2: Checkout the competition

Once you have selected a category, look at the competition available. This is your best way to learn what works to reach the top. Look at the top ranking gigs to see how they have created their gigs. How they have coined their title, how attractive their thumbnail is, how they have structured their gig description and how they have priced their service.

These should be noted down in order for us to create our own unique spin to come out with our gig. Look for sellers who have the highest reviews.

Step 3: Create an eye-catching title.

Now that you know what your competition like is, the first step to creating your gig is to coin a appealing, eye-catching gig title. This will be your gig headline. Here, focus on the keywords that you use (we will describe why this is important in the next step) and portraying your unique selling feature. For instance; if you are expecting to sell copywriting services, and speed of delivery is your strong suit. Mention that in your title.

Step 4: Choose the correct keywords and tags

Fiverr is a search engine that provides the seekers (Buyers) the best service providers it thinks that the buyer is looking for. How fiverr determines this is through understanding the relevancy of the gigs that are available and presents the most suitable to the buyer. How it is done through is mainly the gig tags, and the keywords used. So when benchmarking your competition look for similar words that pop up among the top sellers, these are an indication that theses are good words to include in your gig.

Step 5: Create a competitive price point for your gig

Look at what the competition is offering and identify a price point for an entry level gig. This would ideally be the gigs with no reviews currently and ratings indicating that these are newly established gigs. See how they have priced.Look at what the competition is offering and identify a price point for an entry level gig. Further, establish packages to differentiate the services you provide. In Fiverr you are able to provide three packages with three different price points. Use the most basic package to the lowest price, but include certain features that are not provided by others to differentiate yourself. Eg; including psd. File for a logo project in the basic or mid-tier package.

Consider pricing your services low at the start to attract more buyers. Fiverr has a level system based on the number of orders you do and the reviews you get. The higher you progress, the more visible and successful your gigs will be. Once you’ve moved up a level, and have multiple five-star ratings and reviews, you can raise your prices.

Step 6: Win them with your gig description

The next step in creating a successful Fiverr gig is to write a gig description that makes people want to buy. You’ve got a lot of space to play with, so here’s what you do:

  • Highlight the benefits for buyers, including how your services will help them achieve success or win business
  • Say why you’re the right person for them to work with. Five-star sellers with thousands of happy customers usually lead with this information, because it helps to reassure potential buyers that they are choosing the right gig
  • State clearly what’s included in the service you offer
  • Include links to social proof—if you’ve got an external portfolio that makes your services look good, this is the place to put it

Step 7: Market yourself – create a flow of orders – Create positive reviews

The last but not the least in importance is to use your networks available to gain visibility to your service. Use available social media platforms to reach out to the initial clients. You can use your email contacts to send a word out to potential clients. Or to ask your close acquaintances to refer you to individuals who are seeking the type of service you are offering. This is will be the most ideal way to garner a few initial clients and build upon positives reviews about your gig.
